SENIOR ACCOUNTANT
The Senior Accountant is a key subject matter expert responsible for preparing and analyzing monthly financial statements, evaluating operating costs, ensuring the payment of all tax obligations, and preparing production, sales and financial reports. This role is critical to ensuring financial integrity and provides mentorship and coaching to junior accounting staff.




Principal Duties and Accountabilities:
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in complex accounting tasks and provide guidance to team members to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance.
  • Assist in the preparation of consolidated monthly financial statements and other financial analytics, providing insights and recommendations based on analysis.
  • Prepare revenue projections and backlog analysis for all operating companies, ensuring accuracy and alignment with strategic goals.
  • Manage month-end close checklist, ensuring all tasks are completed timely and accurately.
  • Support internal and external audits by coordinating audit requests, reviewing workpapers, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies
  • Coordinate monthly reporting and job cost review with management, providing strategic insights as part of the monthly financial statement preparation.
  • Reconcile job cost, and billings to the general ledger and address root causes for discrepancies proactively.
  • Review Blackline GL account reconciliations completed by other team members (fixed assets, cash, use taxes, etc.) to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Evaluate operating expenses against budgets, helping management maintain clean overhead budgets by identifying irregularities or issues for resolution.
  • Administer Blackline (account and task assignments, period end close, account mapping, etc.) to streamline processes.
  • Record monthly journal entries and job cost adjustments accurately and efficiently.
  • Develop and maintain accounting processes and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness across the department.
  • Develop automated daily dashboards for cash flows and other key metrics to enhance decision-making capabilities.
  • Assist with the training and mentoring of accounting and operational personnel on the full utilization of all financial systems, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.
  • Perform other responsibilities as required, including ad hoc reporting, quarterly compliance and certificates, new vendor setups and internal controls, as well as maintaining the use tax table.   

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or equivalent work experience.

Experience:
  • Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in financial management, general accounting and/or audit, demonstrating expertise in complex accounting tasks.
  • Experience within the construction industry preferred.
  • CPA certification or active pursuit of CPA certification preferred.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Thorough knowledge of standard accounting procedures, as well as all relevant Federal, State and local requirements
  • Experience in the preparation of General Ledgers, with a strong understanding of FASB requirements, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Access; attention to detail; excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • High degree of attention to detail, with a commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality of corporate and team member information.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills, both internally and externally, with a focus on collaboration and teamwork.
  • Operates with a strong sense of urgency and a results-oriented mindset, consistently meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to thrive in a high-volume environment, multi-task, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Flexibility and willingness to assist where needed in the department and train others.

Physical and/or travel demands:  
  • Frequent sitting, use of keyboard/monitor, use of 10-key and use of telephone.
  • Occasional, infrequent travel to regional offices may be required. 

Benefits and Compensation:
  • The range for this position has been established at $78,000 to $110,000 per year and is U.S. Engineering’s good faith and reasonable estimate at the time of the posting. The compensation offered to the finalist selected for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
  • Your total compensation will go beyond the number on your paycheck. Team members are eligible for a year-end bonus based on company and/or individual performance as well as paid time off.
